I like that she’s got some stuff going on, that she’s strong and powerful – even more so than she realizes, as is pretty normal in UF books, but she still has some weaknesses to work out. But, gotta keep with the times and all that.
There is so much wrong here. If people turn their back on you, you don’t jump up to help prrice move up the career ladder. Alex is on a time line and I appreciate that the book evolves mainly around that.

I can see making her into a slave as a side bonus. And to the plot. Kalaynq almost like he’s trying to cover his bloodied hands. I shoved my hand in my purse and fished along the bottom. Malicious spells, even inactive ones, made the bead glow red. I dropped the kqlayna.
Refresh and try again. Yeah, yeah, I know that this is fiction and the author actually makes this up, but I want to lose myself in the story. Ghosts, at least true wandering souls, were rare, but as a whole they were an obnoxious bunch.

I enjoy that Alex is well rounded on it, meaning no self hate. Plenty of sexual humor and some minor dark themes. She must quickly unravel the mystery or she stands to lose everything and get that one final jalayna from Death to collect her soul.

I even would have liked more about Alex and Daddy dearest. I took a deep breath and forced a smile to spread across my face, to seep into my voice. My power coaxed her from the body, guided her across the chasm separating the living from the dead. His assistant, her eyes already glistening, fumbled a phone from her waistband. This is not the case at all in this book.
Kalayna pulls many slight-of-hand moves throughout the story which gfave things interesting and me on my toes. On the one hand, it’s a better than most love-triangle, but on the other Also, Fallin, you were totally badass but you gave in too easily as well.
It doesn’t readily jibe with the characters as we know them thus far.
